50 Cent and Eminem Join Forces At SXSW
50 Cent performs his 2003 album “Get Rich or Die Tryin’” with some help from Marshall Mathers.
By Nadeska Alexis

50 Cent made a rare appearance in Austin, Texas on Friday night to perform his classic 2003 album Get Rich or Die Tryin' in its entirety, and fans who were hoping for that rumored Eminem performance were not the least bit disappointed.

The opening lineup at the SXSW Shady 2.0 Showcase included 50 Cent's new G-Unit artists Paris and Kidd Kidd, plus Action Bronson, Black Hippy's Schoolboy Q, Don Trip and Big K.R.I.T. Yelawolf was forced to cancel his appearance due to an injury but his fellow Shady Records signees, Slaughterhouse, took the stage before Fif dishing out freestyles, in addition to singles like "Hammer Dance" from their upcoming album welcome to: Our House.

50 Cent hit the stage shortly after 11pm, launching into "What Up Gangsta?" decked out in an appropriately nostalgic outfit–a camouflage bullet-proof best and Yankees cap.

Throughout the week there had been whispers of an Eminem guest appearance during Fif's set, and Marshall Mathers confirmed those rumors on the second song of the night. Fifty rolled right into "Patiently Waiting," spitting his first verse and within seconds Em burst onto the stage, delivering the hook and his verse, casually decked out in jeans a baseball cap and his signature hoodie.

At times, Fif's commentary during the show was just as entertaining as the actual songs. "It's been 10 years. That album sold 13 million copies," he told the crowd, marveling at the success of Get Rich or Die Tryin.' "The money came so fast, I couldn't f— it up," he added, getting some laughs from the crowd. "I was trying everything I could think of."

Tony Yayo hung by Fif's side as the crowd continued to go wild for tracks like "Many Men," and "In Da Club." And although the Queens rapper was in great spirits, he still managed to get in a bit of a rant, taking aim at some of his critics. "I guess it's not what have I done, but what have I done for you lately, is that right?" he said, the annoyance evident on his face.

Still, Fif treated fans to a few more songs, including an encore performance and a freestyle over Eminem's "Till I Collapse," which commanded another Shady appearance on stage. "Wanksta" was the closing number of the night, and though fans stayed put, expectantly, for another few minutes, that was it folks.

Above the Buzz pays homage to Queen B after the singer pens a few heartfelt letters to her own idols.

These days, Beyoncé is breaking down her personal "fourth wall," letting fans into her life more and more, after living as a pop-star enigma for more than a decade.

She recently re-launched her website, began tweeting, started a personal Tumblr account and even Skyped with a contest winner this week after her "End of Time" remix competition.

Somewhere in there, Blue Ivy's mama found the time to handwrite letters to several famous people and post them on her site. She shared her warm, fuzzy feelings for some key figures, including First Lady Michelle Obama, the late New York artist Jean-Michel Basquiat and R&B star Sade . In honor of that, I decided to turn this week's Above the Buzz into a letter to Beyoncé, in the key of B, of course.

Dear Beyoncé,

First off, I just want to say "Hey Girl!" You're truly an inspiration to girls everywhere. You represent ladies in a great way, what with your girl power anthems and messages of female independence.

And it seems these days, in spite of how busy you are, you're focused on heading back to school. Education is a really awesome message to spread to all the young women out there. Stay in school kids, right, B?

Next, I just want to let you know that I am still into 4. It's a pretty great album to just leave on repeat while I'm at work or just living life. I mean, those are some jams on there. And, not to quote you or anything, but you shared with Sade that her music helps you get through times, good and bad — well, back at you.

Also, you've been rocking some awesome street style recently. Those "cat" flats you donned a few weeks back have me dreaming of kitschy, animal-themed couture every night. I can only imagine the kind of crazy looks you are planning for the string of shows you have lined up
next month in Atlantic City. I assume my tickets are in the mail?

Anyway, I don't want to take up too much of your time. I know you're busy being a mom and working on new music and probably prepping for your show and all, but if you and Jay-Z can make the time, I think I can pencil you guys in for dinner or whatever. I'm cool with wherever you guys pick. You know me, pretty easy-going and all. Alright then, talk to you later.

Superstars swing through the hallways of "American Idol" on a weekly basis, but on Wednesday (April 27), Lauren Alaina was greeted by one of her very own idols.

With the assistance of Babyface and Jimmy Iovine, Alaina's weekly training session was running smoothly as she rehearsed her cover of Carole King's "Where You Lead."

"About halfway through my meeting with Jimmy, he had a big surprise for me," Alaina gushed to viewers in a pre-taped segment on the show. "Miley Cyrus walks in. I was like [jaw drops open] … she was so nice and she gave me such great advice."

With her long curly locks and dressed in an all-black ensemble, Cyrus offered a hug to the aspiring songstress and shared a few friendly words of advice.

"I listen to your music all the time. You're awesome," the "Hannah Montana" star told the 16-year-old. "The most important thing you can do is just do it for yourself because you will always have mean comments. People will always talk about you and that's never going to change."

Alaina's impromptu visit from Miley seemed to have boosted her confidence for Wednesday night's performance. From those high-hitting notes to her inviting a male audience member onstage, the contestant playfully strutted, ending her performance with a chuckle.

News of Cyrus' surprise appearance on "Idol" hit the Internet early Wednesday morning when E! Online reported that Iovine asked the superstar to be a mentor as a result of a remark he'd made earlier in the competition. A few weeks back, Alaina chose to sing Cyrus' hit song "The Climb," which led Iovine to tell the contestant she was "a much stronger singer than Miley Cyrus."
